Over The Edge

Over The Edge

In October 1876, Charles Goodnight concluded Palo Doro Canyon would make a great home ranch site.

The cowboys faced the daunting task of getting the wagon, cattle, and supplies down a 700 foot wall into the canyon.

The men winched the wagon down the steep side. They packed the mules with supplies and drove the cattle single file to the canyon floor.

Preliminary working sketch.

Reduced size of foreground cowboys to give more space between them. Added cowboy in front of wagon to create balance. Also added some rocks in upper right to establish some weight to composition. Added another longhorn for interest and clumps of grasses and rocks to draw eye into painting
